Have you tried TikTok for business yet?
Small business owner, what if TikTok could grab some new leads and potential clients for you this holiday season? Let’s do some thinking outside the normal marketing box. Here’s an example of one successful marketer on TikTok.
Do your “holiday shopping” um, research on TikTok first.
First, put together a list of keywords that your target market will be searching.
Next, create a list of keywords to spy on your business competition. “All’s fair in love and war”, right?
Then click on the DISCOVER tab on TikTok. Enter the keywords to search your competitors first. Put on your detective hat and make notes on how they are using TikTok. (HelloWoofy, Inc. would say, follow your keen canine sense of smell!)
- Who has the most followers?
- What kind of content are the most successful brands using?
- How long are the videos?
- How are they leading their followers into the next step of their sales/marketing funnel?
Time to UPCYCLE some content and add a beautiful holiday bow.
Based on your TikTok research, you may have noticed you don’t have to start over from scratch. You can recycle or upcycle some of your current content.
You can easily start with what you already have inside your content marketing box. That’s the paws-itive side to using TikTok.
What special content have you already created? Branded posts? Logos? Special offers? Freebie downloads? How-to videos? Go a little bit deeper.
Is there a piece of content — any social media post on any platform — that already has some extra love from your followers?
Grab THAT piece of content and follow the directions.
TikTok is ALL about gaining visibility by creating bite-sized, entertaining content.
The KEY is to do what is already working on TikTok.
You will add your own unique business voice in this busy online marketplace. However, try using a “copycat content” twist.
Unlike other social media platforms, TikTok is the place to be a copycat with out that dirty word: plagarism!
What is copycat content?
To be a copycat you Imitate a favorite TikTok video or dance with just a small sound-bite of relevant content to your target market. Do include a call-to-action! Here’s one fun example!
According to a recent Social Media Examiner article, it’s important that you source the original TikTok video for more engagement. Hat tip to Social Media Examiner for these following tips:
- Find the video you want to copycat.
- Locate the face in the lower right-hand corner and tap.
- Tap the “Use this Sound” button on the next screen.
- In the lower right-hand corner of the video you’re going to copycat, tap on the circle with a face in it.
- On the next screen, tap on the red “Use this Sound” button.
Other forms of content you’ll want to use on TikTok are educational and business tips. Always be adding value.
Consider going LIVE on Tiktok for even more visibility.
Livestream videos are visible to anyone who’s scrolling their ForYou feed. That’s why you’re there, right? If you’re on TikTok, you’re not camera-shy!
Good news, though. You don’t have to sing or dance. You can just provide a positive, clear 15 seconds of useful information.
Your face and your voice are what matters the most.

Pssst! Don’t hit delete on any posted videos. You’ll undo some of that TikTok love, because a deleted video messes with your algorithm. Who can understand the ever-loving algorithms? Just go with that changing flow.
